Grandma’s Pizza

Grandma’s Pizza

  • 1 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • 1 pkg (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  1. In a large bowl, sprinkle yeast into water and stir until dissolved.  Stir in sugar, salt, and oil. Add 2 cups of flour and stir until smooth.  Then add additional 1 ½ cups of flour.  It may seem like it won’t mix together, but it will.  Keep mixing and kneading until the flour is fully incorporated.  Continue kneading until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Place ball of dough into a bowl drizzled with oil. Drizzle more oil on the dough, about 2 tablespoons. (See our Skill Snippet video for tips on kneading). Cover dough and let rest in a warm place for an hour or more. IF you have to time to let it rest for more time, that is better! The dough will be easier to work with and taste even better! The dough will double in size. Separate dough in half.  Stretch and roll out the dough to fit onto two baking sheets.  Adding more oil will help with this process. Spread tomato sauce onto the dough and add any toppings you would like. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 23-26 minutes, until the crust is crispy.

Makes two pizzas, size 13×18 sheet pan or 16-inch round pan.
